Thomas P. Smith Memorial - 91st Bomb Group (H)

Thomas P. Smith Memorial, Incarville, France

A memorial stone was engraved in 2011 in Incarville, France (the site of the crash) in memory of Thomas P. Smith. Smith was pilot of Fifinella. The B-17 was shot down by German flak in the early afternoon of 13 AUG 1944. Fifinella was returning from a mission to destroy the bridge on the Seine mansion. A shell hit the cockpit, but Smith was able to loop around and allow the crew to bail out. The aircraft crashed and Smith was KIA.
